My Story

An evolving journey.

Hello, my name is Dr. Alexander Ralys, and I am a primary care trained Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, Healthcare Consultant, and Director of Healthcare Equality and clinic manager at a prominent multispecialty group in Jacksonville, Fl. As of early 2024, I have also returned to practicing medicine in the primary care setting allowing me to impact my community in a more direct way. I have lived in Florida since 1996 and have learned to love everything it has to offer. I completed my undergraduate degree at the University of Colorado in Studio Art, a master’s degree at USF in Tampa, Fl, and completed medical school in 2017 at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Bradenton, Fl. Since medical school, I have trained and worked as a primary care physician as well as worked in healthcare management and business development, consulting, and healthcare compliance. I am committed to improving the healthcare experience for everyone involved.

I have spent my entire life developing the tools to care for people. Helping people is truly the thing I am most passionate about. Prior to becoming a physician, I spent time on many international mission trips and have always had a strong interest in local community service projects and global missions. While I no longer go on mission trips, I understand the value these service projects have had in shaping my desire to help those in need. As a doctor, my community involvement, internships, and training has became focused on finding ways of serving my community through medicine. Ultimately, healthcare was where I found my stride in life. After completing medical school, I chose a career in family medicine because it allowed me to directly connect and help individuals around me on a personal level. Regardless of where I have been in life, helping people has always been a common theme.

As an early adult, I began to wrestle with accepting my own self-identity and sexuality. For me, that process was difficult at best. Years of denial and a failure to adequately address my own social situation ultimately made life much more difficult than it needed to be. In 2018 I was wrongfully accused of what I believe is a truly tragic crime because of my own personal and lifestyle differences. Being accused of such serious wrongdoing has led to years of investment in myself, soul searching, and ultimately a reshaping of my values. It has also made clear to me that personal and systemic prejudices and disparities still exist in this world and unfortunately have very real-world consequences.

While some of my own past experiences have been difficult, I believe strongly it is possible to benefit from the outcome of a situation without enjoying the journey. My past experiences and issues with self-doubt have shaped my commitment to decreasing barriers for the LGBTQ+ community and have given me a vision for how truly great life can be. Because of my past, I am able to live an authentic version of my own life I never previously thought possible, and I am passionate about affording others who are struggling the same opportunity. My past has given me the tools to address LGBTQ+ issues through problem awareness, enhancing healthcare operations, and addressing health literacy. I believe through this I can encourage a more diverse, inclusive, and equitable community.
